Meeting 2 — If We Want to Reach the Goal – We Will Reach It?

Goal

Showing life as a journey. My motivation to wake up and set off on the road.

Prayer

Short, spontaneous. I propose worship, thanksgiving for the gift of “this time”, for the possibility of awakening, “opening eyes”.

Let’s read a certain poem:

Maps are unnecessary for us
Put guidebooks aside
We will take only trust on our journey
In this journey luggage is unnecessary for us
We will take only a few dreams with us
Maps are unnecessary for us
When the goal tempts
In this journey good intentions are enough for us.

And we will go into unknown days to seek the source of love
Which is given to all of us
Only need, only need, only need to find it!

Let’s ask ourselves questions to this poem:

  • What “maps” do I have at my disposal in my life? What guides me in important choices?

  • On what/whom do I rely most?

  • Can “maps” and “guidebooks” be harmful?

  • Is “my world” trustworthy? How much trust is there in my life, and how much fear and suspicion? Where does it come from?

Let’s read a fragment of the Holy Scripture:

And behold, one came up to him, saying, “Teacher, what good deed must I do, to have eternal life?” And he said to him, “Why do you ask me about what is good? One there is who is good. If you would enter life, keep the commandments.” He said to him, “Which?” And Jesus said, “You shall not kill, You shall not commit adultery, You shall not steal, You shall not bear false witness, Honor your father and mother, and, You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” The young man said to him, “All these I have observed; what do I still lack?” Jesus said to him, “If you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.” When the young man heard this he went away sorrowful; for he had great possessions.

  • With what “luggage” am I going? What experiences, memories help me “be on the way”, and which “hold” me in place?

  • How do I understand dreams? Are they nice fantasies, concrete plans, desires…?

  • What motivations do I find in myself? Where do they come from?

The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up; then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls, who, on finding one pearl of great value, went and sold all that he had and bought it.

  • Is there anything in my life that is really worth going for?

  • Do I choose what I consider my goal because “it is necessary”, “I should”, or because “it tempts”, “I desire it”?

  • Are good intentions enough? Don’t we need competences, means, tools?

  • What “tools” do we need on the path of faith?

  • What are the sources of love?

  • How to look for them?

  • In what way can love be renewed?

  • Who is next to me on my way? With whom am I going?

  • In what “condition” are my relationships at home, at school, in the environment?

  • Is there a willingness, desire in me to “hear the voice”, “go on a journey”?

  • What to do if there is no such desire, if a sense of inertia, meaninglessness overwhelms me?

  • Does “reaching the goal” really depend on us?
